Proper Etiquette at a Blackjack Table

Playing blackjack is a simple way to have fun. The game of blackjack also involves other people to play with. So it does not mean that to have blackjack fun you should be stepping on other people’s shoes. As such, you should learn to behave properly at a blackjack table.

Because by learning to do so, you get the respect you deserve by the dealers and other players and not only when you’re winning but at all times. You might lose constantly at a blackjack table but by learning to act properly you will get much respect as well.

When you sit down at a blackjack table, the very first thing to do is take out the amount of money you’d want to cash in for chips. Don’t hold the money in your hand as if you are fooling the dealer. Instead lay the money right in front you. This is because dealers are not allowed to take the money from a player’s hands.

The dealer will then get the money and lay the money in front of him. The same number of chips will be counted out and be told to the Pit Boss the amount of money to be changed. For example you give out $100; the dealer will then say “$100 change”. The dealer will wait for the clearance of the Pit Boss before handing out your chips.

Pull the stack of chips close to you and only place your bet on the layout spot in front of you. Try not to act to occupy the whole blackjack table with your chips and only learn where to properly put yours.

Another etiquette to remember at a blackjack table is to never touch your cards. If you want to hit, draw, double down, etc. you can do so by moving your hands or placing chips in front of your cards. Another proper etiquette at a blackjack table is to never touch your bet after it has been made.

The dealer will give you a polite warning if you do touch your bets or your cards. If you keep doing it, a bouncer will eventually come out, just kidding. The dealer will politely warn you two times or depending on the dealer’s patience. Just try not to make the dealer angry by doing so repeatedly even after you’ve been warned. No one wants an angry dealer.

If you would like to smoke at the blackjack table, be considerate and ask the one beside you. If they object simply go to another place to smoke. Also avoid unnecessary conversations at a blackjack table because it could be distracting for some. Plus chatting all the time will also make you lose your focus.

Finally don’t be a whiner at a blackjack table. Accept your fate if you lose and be gracious if you are winning.
